Political Developments in Pakistan: Sharing Power with Civilians

Abstract

Since the in dependence of Pakistan in 1947, senior military commanders and political elite have alternatively come to power, Rivalry between the military and civilians for seizing power has been existed for too many years, so that whenever the time is ripe, one of the senior military commanders arranges a coup under the pretext of keeping security and struggling against administrative corruption; and promises to hold a free election. But the experience shows that they do not voluntarily hand over the power to civilians until being over thrown.

At the present time, instability in Pakistan has created a serious problem leading to the declaration of emergency stats. This article studies the conditions leading to the present situation and tries to explain the current crisis in light of the policies adopted by Musharraf during his presidency.
